This year, for the first time ever, SA Police Legacy is joining with NSW Police Legacy, and we are sending one of our young recipients, Tom Koerner, to Kokoda!
Tom is only 19 years old, but he’s ready to conquer the Kokoda trail. In April 2019, Tom will fly to Papua New Guinea with SA Police Legacy’s President, Mark Willing, and together they will face tough conditions and test their endurance. The 96 kilometre Kokoda Track still bears its battle scars in the shape of scattered ammunition, guns, helmets and stirring campfire stories. There are steep rugged mountains, treacherous ridges, jungle terrain, unforgiving rivers and rainforests.
The Kokoda Trail is a 12 day, life changing experience, run by reputable company, Our Spirit Adventures. The experience will not only be a growth experience of Tom, but it will give the entire group the opportunity to commemorate ANZAC Diggers.
Each weekend, both Tom and Mark (and sometimes, Tom’s Mum Jody!), hike local South Australian mountains and rough terrain, as they prepare for what’s ahead. Part of Tom’s commitment to Kokoda is helping to fundraise for SA Police Legacy. To date, $3000 has been raised, which is halfway to our target of $6000.
