VALE – Detective Chief Superintendent Joanne Shanahan APM
On behalf of the board of SA Police Legacy, our membership, our police families and staff, we extend our sincerest condolences to the Shanahan family following yesterday’s unexpected and tragic loss of Detective Chief Superintendent Joanne Shanahan APM.
Joanne was off-duty when this tragedy occurred and whilst SA Police Legacy honour’s all police officer deaths, this message of condolence to the Shanahan family comes from a personal connection. Joanne, and her retired police officer husband Peter, are close friends of the SA Police Legacy family and attended numerous events with us over the years. We have been inspired by Joanne’s ability to connect with others, particularly those police legatees she spoke with over the years.
Her death will impact a number of people and in many different ways, today we share that grief and sadness. We also would like to acknowledge those who attended the scene including our Patron, Police Commissioner Grant Stevens.
SA Police Legacy provides support to police families who experience loss or serious illness. Our goal is to help guide the family through their personal experience of long-term grief and provide services which assist with rebuilding lives.
